While 5G is often marketed for faster phone downloads, its real killer application is V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything). This standard allows vehicles to communicate not just with the cloud, but with traffic lights, pedestrians, and other cars in real-time.
Direct Mode Communication
Unlike traditional telematics which route data through a server, C-V2X supports a "Direct Mode" (Sidelink). This allows a car to broadcast "I am braking hard!" to all vehicles within 300 meters, without needing a cell tower.
- Latency: Reduced from 100ms (4G) to <5ms.
- Redundancy: Works even in dead zones or tunnels.
"V2X doesn't just reduce accidents; it eliminates the possibility of them in blind-intersection scenarios."
